Saarlouis
Pilot project in Saarlouis
By the project the city of Saarlouis will try to develop and implement blue-green infrastructure to improve climate resilience, micro climate and biodiversity. Urban space in the City of Saarlouis is significantly limited because of various constraints like conflicts of use and historic preservation. Many urban areas are unsuitable for conventional greening, which is why the City of Saarlouis has a focus on mobile and flexible greening solutions.
By developing a maintenance and exchange system for container-based urban green, the City of Saarlouis will improve long-term vitality of greenery and will be able to carry out short-term adjustements to particular circumstances like e.g. public events.
Together with Strasbourg, the City of Saarlouis will test and implement different container-based systems, irrigation and evaporation concepts as well as biodiversity-supporting elements in some highly constrained spaces (Pilot Action III) and contributes to the project‘s objective to evaluate effects of mobile greenery.
Furthermore, Saarlouis will bring in expertise and experience to the project team in terms of already implemented measures regarding climate adaption and biotope development.
